Julie and TJ were married on September 20, 2014 with a ceremony and reception at the stunning Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield, Maine.
The morning of the wedding, I arrived at Julie's aunt's home and photographed the girls getting ready. The bridesmaids were still getting dressed, and Julie helped them all fine tune their looks. Then, Julie's mom and sisters helped her get into her dress and shoes. At the same time, my second shooter, Mark Bolton, was hanging with TJ and his groomsmen while they got ready.
Shortly thereafter, TJ arrived at the house where Julie was for their first look. We used the gorgeous field next to her aunt's house for pictures of them alone and then with their families. Then, we headed down the dirt road to The Stone Mountain Arts Center for the ceremony. After the ceremony, the bride and groom were invited to take a horse and carriage ride, so we grabbed a photo with one of the horses!
The bride and groom entered the reception and went right into their first dance. After the first dance, guests retreated back to the same room the ceremony had been in, which had been reset for dinner. After dinner, guests went back over to the barn with the dance floor for the remainder of the night. The night ended with a gorgeous sparkler exit.
There were so many moments that I remember. I loved their first dance; you can feel their happiness jump out at you when you watch them. I loved when Julie's sisters did a dance for her—and her reaction! And I love the portrait of Julie and TJ at night. I do these night portraits if timing allows during the reception—I sneak the bride and groom out for 10 minutes to do a few extra, more dramatic evening portraits. It's always fun to have a few of these, and this was perfect!
The thing I loved most about Julie and TJ's day was Julie and TJ. They were so incredibly happy to get married to each other. The moment they saw each other for the first time during their first look was so genuine and full of emotion. This feeling carried through their day—Julie getting emotional during the ceremony; TJ's wide, happy smile during the ceremony; and the intimate snuggles they shared on the dance floor. There were so many amazing, charming details that really gave guests a feel for who Julie and TJ are and how important their friends and family are to them.
Congratulations to Julie and TJ; I loved every minute of your special day! And thanks to Hannah Babineau at the Stone Mountain Arts Center for being so amazing to work with!
