In August, I met Joe, a Londonderry High School Senior for his senior session. We choose to meet at Elwood Orchards in Londonderry, NH.
Joe's family owns Elwood Orchards, so naturally he wanted to use the beautiful location for his senior portrait session. As a photographer, I couldn’t have been happier; we had apple crates, peach trees and corn fields to work with. Joe's grandfather's house still stands on the land there, and we were able to incorporate that history in the images of Joe sitting on the steps and leaning on the white wall.
Toward the end of the session, I asked Joe if he had another shirt he wanted to change into. (I encourage clients to bring a change of clothes for the session, so they have two options to choose from when deciding which images to choose.) He said no, but that he did bring a cowboy hat. I said: “Go grab that hat!”
Just as the sun was setting, on the hill high above the surrounding towns of Londonderry, I asked him to stand at the edge and casually tip his hat. What came out of this moment was the silhouetted image with the gorgeous sunset in the background. I knew it was going to be killer the moment it was created. Joe's Mother has a huge print of it in their home and she gets compliments on it all the time!
Congratulations Joe! Good luck with everything you do in the future!
