Nicole and Shawn went to high school together, and actually lived across the street from each other. Nicole drove Shawn to school almost every morning of their senior year, but they were just friends. About 2 1/2 years after they graduated high school, they started talking and hanging out again!
Shawn proposed on Thanksgiving night of 2013. It was a crazy busy day. He had worked in the morning, so Nicole went to have dinner with her family and Addison. Addison had missed her nap - she was crabby and then she tripped and fell scraping her head on their brick fireplace (don't worry it didn't require a hospital trip, she was fine!). SO we left to come home and Shawn was pulling in just as Nicole and Addison were. They were all supposed to go to Shawn's family's house for supper. Well, Addi was exhausted and crying, Nicole was exhausted and Shawn was a little disappointed that they weren't all going to go together. Shawn left with Addi and Nicole took a 45 min power nap before heading over. She took the long 7 min drive to his parents house and had a 2nd Thanksgiving dinner. Talk about stuffed! They ended up back home about 8pm. Nicole had her back to Shawn. She was putting down what ever she had in her hands and when she turned around he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Nicole was in complete shock and totally not expecting it at all. Once he gave Nicole the ring he asked her if she had recognized it. It was his grandmothers ring. He had it all fixed up and it looked beautiful.
We met at their home in Massachusetts to photograph their Day in the Life engagement session. This type of session starts out with some traditional portraits of you and your fiance, but they also include time for you to do some daily activities together. When I asked Nicole and Shawn what they'd do when their 4 year old was not with them, Nicole immediately said she'd be napping. So they started out on the sofa together watching a little TV, and taking a moment to catch a few z's. Nicole also spends her free time creating artwork in the form of custom, handmade invitations and stationary. Her and Shawn share an office. Shawn's side of the office is where he catches up with the latest video game.
A little later, it was time to wake up sleeping beauty - Nicole and Shawn's 4 year old daughter, Addi. I don't think she was happy to wake up and get out of bed, but they did their best to get her to smile a little.
Once Nicole and Shawn promised Addi they could bake cupcakes, Addi was up and out of bed quickly! They cooked together and got a little silly with the flour at the end.
Addi also loves to work on puzzles with Shawn and Nicole, so towards the end of our session, they sat down together to work on one of her favorites.
But before I left, I was sure to capture the lovely Addi with Mom and Dad.
